A Studio Rooted in Nature

Why hello there, welcome to Orbtak Studios!

Wait, what exactly is Orbtak Studios, you may be wondering? Good question…

Orbtak is an artistic studio founded by me, Katie Brooks, and to be completely honest the best way to describe this project is as the embodiment of my creative, autistic and sometimes unhinged mind. My unyielding fascination with nature, science and wild imagination drives this artistic journey, and it leads me to create wonders that are as colorful, intricate and diverse as the natural world around us.

To make matters even more interesting, not only do I have a photographic memory, but I also live with a condition known as synesthesia. There are hundreds of ways synesthesia can present. In my case, it means that I experience sounds as complex amalgamations of moving colors and shapes. This phenomenon is internal to how my brain processes information. It is this unique sensory perception of the world that forms the foundation of all my creative work.

Complex enough for you yet? Well, hold on and widen your mind because we’ve only just begun!

In addition to having a brain that is synesthetic, with colors and shapes reminiscent of a rave floating and moving around my mind constantly, I am also Autistic. I was late-diagnosed in 2024, after years of unknowingly masking my disability and developing a chronic pain disorder in the process. I have lived with Chronic Migraines, knowingly, since the age of 9, and have lived with autism my whole life, unknowingly. What an interesting and challenging road it has been to get here.

Autism deeply influences my artistic approach, providing a distinct lens through which I notice details and patterns in the world that are often overlooked. It is my wholehearted belief that magic is all around us, every moment of every day. Nature is vast, deep and ancient. To discover the hidden secrets and complex layers of beauty in our world, all one must do is learn how to look closely.

I'm passionate about igniting this curiosity within others and delving into new ways of seeing. My creations are an embodiment of the subtle art of noticing. It the little details and overlooked moments of magic that I am most interested in sharing with you!

I hope you find as much joy in experiencing my art as I do in creating it!

I am consistently inspired by nature, light, sound, botanical forms, and objects and places imbued with echoes of past emotions (my academic background is in Art History & Archeology). If any of my words intrigue you, I welcome you to stay and explore Orbtak Studios further. From pastel drawings to ink abstractions, photography to botanical concoctions, and general life adventures, you’ll certainly find a wide range of topics here.

Forthcoming blog posts will be focused on my creative process, travels and nature explorations, as well as my personal experience living with autism and chronic pain. I would love if you choose to stick around!
